I'm going to preface this blog with a few "disclaimers", for lack of a better word: 1. Play what you want to play: My thoughts below are just that. My own musing on the games Donna & I enjoy. I'm not bashing the other games / formats I mention here. When I discuss them below, I'm just explaining why they aren't for us...or at least aren't as big of an interest to us as Company of Iron. We got quite a few games in over the holiday break at the end of last year / beginning of this year. This is one particularly fun play we had late on Christmas Eve after spending the day & early evening with family. Unfortunately, I forgot to take an overhead shot of the table before we started the game. I also neglected to take any photos in the last turn of the game.    I'll blame both of those mistakes on us playing late at night after a long day.  Thankfully, I was able to make a mock-up to show the location & types of the terrain overlaid onto the scenario layout from the rules & get quite a few pics of the game leading up to that brief, last turn. I like to do something hobby oriented almost every day.  Sometimes that means painting a model from start to finish. Sometimes that means just replacing the parchment paper on my wet palette so it's ready the next day. On days when I don't have much time or maybe didn't get much sleep, I prefer not to focus on painting a model or using a sharp blade to clean up mold lines on a new build. Often, I'll use those days to make terrain. Making things like boulders, stone walls, trees, etc gives a lot of latitude, because things are not perfectly symmetrical in nature. So, it doesn't matter if something isn't perfectly square or flat. In fact, it makes it look better to have all those little imperfections; especially when you're making rocks / boulders. I got quite a few plays in with Skorne the last 2 months. I'm starting to get more comfortable with them, but I'd hardly say that I'm at the point of feeling super competitive as a Skorne player. That said, this was one of the first few games where I was starting to get into the groove & not feel so lost with them . It was also one of Donna's first games running a new caster & list for her Protectorate including a 'Jack Marshall with a Repenter.
