Steam & Sorcery

About a month into us first getting into Warmachine, it became clear that we were hooked. We'd worked our way up from a Battlegroup game to adding solos & then finally adding in a unit or 2 each . At that point, we decided that we wanted to (eventually) dig deeper to play more factions, including each of us finding at least 1 Hordes faction that we enjoyed.  After getting our first mystery boxes (Protectorate & Skorne), we got a few more including Circle & Legion. Donna chose Circle and made her first list with them so that could get to work putting them together / painting them. This game was our first full game where we both played a Hordes faction. Scenario & Terrain We rolled a d6 to choose the scenario & played Brawlmachine Scenario 4: Singularity. There is a circular zone in the center of the table with a rectangular zone overlapping it. Centered on both ends of the rectangular zone are objectives; each one belongs to the army whose starting table edge is

I want to point out that this blog in general is almost 100% for my own enjoyment. I like writing. I like thinking about things / breaking them down. I like writing about the things I think about...blah blah blah.  I write that to say that I'm not trying to convince anyone to feel any differently about Company of Iron. I'm just exploring my own thoughts on it as I dig deeper into the game play, how the launch / later-development was handled by PP, the complaints I've seen, etc. As we play it more & I read / watch more older content from when the game first came out, I may have more thoughts to dig into. I guess I should clarify from the start: not all the complaints are unfounded or wrong. For one thing, personal taste comes into play and that makes many things relative. That said, there are other complaints that I think can squarely be blamed on misunderstanding of a core rule or building a list that  I believe  does not fit well with the "spirit" of Company

After replacing Severius1 with Feora1 as her caster, Donna spent the month of January working through different lists for her Protectorate army. She wanted to see what she could make work best to support her new "in your face" leader after using more of a "keep grandpa safe in the basement" style of play trying to protect Severius for 6 months. The models she has in her army to pick from offer some really cool & dangerous (for me) synergies taking advantage of all aspects of the combined arms threats offered in Warmachine / Hordes. From Feora's more offensive spell list to heavy melee hits from her Bastions / Indictor & deadly ranged threats from Elias Gade / Repenter.  As she was working through this, I was starting to get a bit more comfortable with my limited Skorne force. As of now, I only have enough models built / painted to run a single list under the "Masters of War" theme. I have a unit of Cataphract Cetrati built that I hope to have p
